As part of our active SRHR Policy Tracking, we have been able to gather that on May 13, 2025 the Senate Committee on Health has planned to once more bring the Public Health Bill in session for deliberation. During one of the Senate sessions, Senator Dabah Varpileh, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, brought to the attention of members of the Liberian senate about the long-awaited Public Health Bill that has since been in committee room for nearly three years. According to the chairperson, there has been ongoing consultation and stakeholders engagement-which we believe are driving forces to calling for a Public hearing. In 2022 the Senate committee had its first Public Hearing, bringing together public health experts, SRHR Champions, religious and traditional leaders, as well as INGOs. During this hearing there were debates and motion expressed based on few critical components that exist within the bill. These components include Chapter 49.6 and Chapter 4. Although there are existing topical contexts of the Bill that have also been debated, these two chapter have stood a potential ground for religious and traditional interference. However, our tracker shows that as of this date, the Senate Committee on Health is internally reviewing the Bill before a floor discussion during one of its upcoming sessions.
